WHAT HAS THE RADIO MONASH TEAM BEEN LISTENING TO?
Radio Monash is a diverse community with a shared common interest: a love of music. From electronic and dance beats to climactic film soundtracks, the Radio Monash team loves a variety of music from across the world, so I set out to ask the team what the artists and songs are that they can’t get out of their heads!
Head of technology, Rohan Kalanje, shared his love for Vo Williams and Boslen, claiming their track ‘Coming Alive’ have been on repeat. Rohan commends the song, stating it is ‘a fantastic blend of hip-hop and electronic music that creates a unique, energetic sound.’ What drew Rohan in was ‘Vo Williams' lyrical prowess combined with Boslen's dynamic production creates a musical experience that's both invigorating and thought-provoking. The song has an infectious rhythm that makes it impossible not to move to the beat. It's the perfect track to get you pumped up and ready to face the day.’
Radio Monash’s Container Wrangler, Oscar Lupton, echoes the global chorus, engaging with the Oppenheimer soundtrack. Oscar considers himself especially lucky as he has been using the mixing room at Radio Monash to listen to the soundtrack on the studio monitors. Oscar wished to mention his favourite songs from the soundtrack, ‘Can You Hear the Music’ and ‘Trinity.’ Steering away from the mainstream, Oscar has also gravitated towards Nujabes’ ‘Modal Soul,’ an album ‘near and dear’ to him following an exchange he went on earlier this year. Oscar described Luv(sic.) Part 3 as ‘a timeless lo-fi classic, with just the right pinch of melancholy.’
Vice-President and Marketing Director, Georgie McColm, has been in what can be classified as her nostalgic era. Georgie shared with me that she’s currently found herself ‘stuck’ in her playlists and has found herself to be listening to a lot of the music that she grew up with. This has included revisiting her favourite band Coldplay, paying special attention to her most enjoyed ‘older’ songs, ‘Princess of China’ and ‘Adventure of a Lifetime.’ Looking back upon memories of road-tripping as a child, Georgie said Gwen Stefani has been on her playlists for ‘at least ten years,’ as she reflected upon her obsession with Stefani’s hit tune ‘What You Waiting For?’ Moreover, Georgie has been exploring music from around the globe, including the music of the French band L'impératrice. In regard to new music, Georgie has found herself listening to tracks by Le Serrafim, Dreamcatcher, and Grimes.
Head of Community, Prina Ranchhod, has been throwing it back to what she has described as ‘old classic bangers,’ listening to some Michael Jackson. Prina shared that ‘it feels good to take a break from all the new stuff that’s come out that all sounds a bit too generic or that’s a remix to an older song.’
Our Treasurer and Community Officer, Shak Dias, stating their current favourite track as dance/electronic, put it quite plainly that they’ve been loving the ‘oontz oontz’ brought to him by the track ‘2007’ by 1tbsp. Listening to this song certainly will put you into a trance. Be warned; it’s addictive.

Studio Director, Noah Martin, leans more on the unconventional side with a recommendation to a 49-second-long song. Noah shared that he’s been listening to ‘Duffy’ by Tommy Dynamite and The Explosions. Noah suggested the song would complement those who have had ‘too much coffee and need to get energy out in 49 seconds.’ The song is has Noah entranced as it is ‘unapologetically energetic and fun,’ ending ‘with the dog noise version of the McDonald’s jingle.’ Here’s to sonic vitality!
