Gig Review: Bakar

The electrifying energy that swept through The Forum Melbourne on Tuesday night was unforgettable night and can only be attributed to one man: Bakar. The London-based artist took the stage by storm, leaving an indelible mark with his extraordinary performance.

Bakar's stage presence was nothing short of magnetic. From the moment he stepped onto the stage, he commanded the attention of the entire venue. His confidence and charisma were palpable, and he had the crowd in the palm of his hand throughout the evening. With no set decoration, no back up dancers or band and merely a simple ‘halo’ light which resembled his album ‘halo,’ you may wonder how the audience could truly be entertained. Yet never was there a moment of fear from fans that the concert would fall short.  The simplicity only accentuated the intensity of the performance as the lack of elaborate production allowed the audience to focus entirely on the music and Bakar's incredible talent.

From the outset Bakar showed determination to ensure that everyone left having a good time. He told the crowd that if everyone was leaving the venue without sweat or with their makeup still intact, that he ‘hadn’t done his job.’ He showed care for everyone’s experience and created a safe space where everyone could sing, dance, jump and give it their all. He did his job.

The most memorable part of this evening was when Bakar took everyone by surprise, descending into the crowd at times to sing with fans, and taking it up a notch by jumping onto the bar and singing from there, to the sheer astonishment of the bar staff. Bakar continued to bring high energy, passion and engage everyone in the crowd in exhilarating moments.

The setlist for the concert was a hit. The atmosphere was electric as he delivered one crowd-pleaser after another, leaving no doubt that his music has a special place in the hearts of his fans.

Bakar has always shown care for the experience of his supporters, even before his concert he announced a casual meet and greet down by the Yarra. This meet and greet was respectful, just as those who attended the concert. Such speaks volumes about the energy and environment Bakar fosters.

One of the most impressive aspects of Bakar's performance was that his voice sounded just as incredible in person as it does in his recordings. His raw, powerful vocals filled the venue, and there was an authenticity to his live performance that is undeniable and incomparable.

Bakar's performance at The Forum Melbourne was a night to remember. With his captivating stage presence, his unaltered live voice, and his determination to engage the crowd, he proved himself as an artist who goes above and beyond to create an unforgettable concert experience. It was a night filled with surprises, incredible music, and a connection between the artist and his fans that will be cherished for a long time.
